Infrastructure Engineer

Position Overview

Work independently as part of a small team of system engineers responsible for the care and feeding of a homogeneous Windows and Linux Based architecture. The position will primarily focus on Operating System, domain services, application integration, and design, but the nature of a small team requires the ability to take on additional duties without significant dependence on documented procedures.

  • The Infrastructure team member will be responsible for the implementation, support and maintenance of all aspects of the project’s infrastructure. Project infrastructure includes hardware, software and networking resources.
  • Provision, install/configure, operate, and maintain hardware and software and related infrastructure. 
  • Monitor health and capacity of system resources (Nagios, CloudAudit, VROPS, ELK, Prometheus)
  • Development and implementation of new hardware and software capabilities (Central Logging, Resource Monitoring and Notification, Dev/Op Automation)
  • Manage hardware and software life-cycles and maintaining applicable vendor relationships (end-of life tracking, licenses and support contracts)
  • Participate in and conducting applicable accreditation support (scans, automation, auditing)
  • Provide general system administration guidance and support (disk management, account creation, design reviews)
  • Create and maintain project level infrastructure standards and conventions (naming conventions, SOPs)
  • Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. 
  • Ensure that system hardware, operating systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting domain services (DNS, SMTP, user administration, group policies, certificate management)
  • Scripting experience (Python, perl, powershell, VBscript, bash)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting web servers (such as Apache HTTPD,IIS, Apache Tomcat, JBoss EAP, SOLR)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting print servers
  • Experience deploying and configuring server side applications
  • Work with standard baseline image creation for workstations and servers
  • Experience defining resource requirements/standards for desktops
  • Ability to partner with other systems administrators, storage administrators, application
    developers, and network engineers to solve complex problems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting multi-site Windows Active Directory domains.
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting Windows Active Directory group policies, security policies, and user account administration.
  • Experience providing system administration support of Windows Server
  • Design and implementation experience with SAN and NAS technology along with different protocols for each storage technology
  • Experience with performance analysis and optimization of distributed (cloud) systems.
  • Experience building Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and using AWS technologies such as AWS Command Line (AWSCLI), Amazon Machine images (AMI), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Simple Storage Services (S3), Elastic Block Storage, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) or CloudWatach and Autoscaling
  • Experience with automated provisioning technologies or methods such as Amazon Web Services CloudFormation, GitHub, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or AWS bootstrapping via cloud-init scripts
  • Experience with Virtual Desktop provisioning
  • Experience working with syslog applications such as Splunk
  • Experience configuring and supporting virtualized compute environments
  • Experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting server backup and replication solutions
  • Experience with implementing and troubleshooting anti-virus management platforms such as McAfee
  • Experience in network analysis and design
